Sustainability in the Illinois MBA

One of the highlights of being in the Illinois MBA program is having the opportunity to choose classes from a wide variety of subjects. As a second year MBA student I am currently enrolled in a class that addresses marketing and product development in subsistence marketplaces. Each week we take a look at the lives of those living in poverty stricken environments. We aim at identifying key elements that affect the day-day living and develop products that would enable better living standards and situations. The course is taught by Professor Madhu Viswanathan, who has been involved in this field for more than 15 years. By the end of the year long class, students will recieve a Certificate for Excellence in Sustainable Management and Technology. The best part if this class is the opportunity for students to take a trip during the winter break to India. I am very much looking forward to this trip where I will experience firsthand the operations in subsistence marketplaces.

The Illinois MBA program is very active in integrating sustainable topics into its courses. Our new business building certainly reflects our core belief that we can effectively and positively impact our world through best business practices.

I hope that I have been able to show you a different side of the Illinois MBA. I am having an exciting start to the new semester and I look forward to sharing more insights with everyone on this blog!

MBA Women in Business Tailgate

Football season has finally started! It's that time of year again when students gather early in the morning to begin their tailgating rituals. Last weekend was our first football game, Illinois vs. ISU, and the MBA started the season off with the Women in Business tailgate. With over 75 students and their family and friends showing up, we had a great turnout and a ton of fun! With food catered from Blues BBQ, thanks to our gracious alum Leah Pettit, games and beverages provided by WiB everyone had a great time!
